Hey everyone! It's been a while since our last update from the farm and we thought we'd start off by telling you about our amazing Hercules.
Hercules was born on Saturday the 8th of June weighing 6.52kg by mother Reef mated with father - Sciarra. His eyes are just like his mothers with the most spectacular fawn eye lashes and his fleece buttery soft, similar to Sciarras. His personality has developed incredibly where we have seen him continue to grow into a loving cuddly Cria with a massive gain on independence and strength.
Quickly after his birth we had noticed Hercules didn't take to feeding straight away from his mother who also wasn't producing enough milk to give him the nutrients he needed. We made the quick decision to start the process of bottle feeding him in the hope of helping take some of the pressure off of mother Reef as well as making up for the feed he was missing. In this time everyone at the farm got to know Hercules a lot better as well as comfort Reef during this period of time.
Unfortunately just over a month after Hercules was born, his mother Reef became very week and unwell which led to her sadly passing away. We mourned with Hercules and were saddened by this event. Since his mothers passing we have cared for Hercules more than ever and also noticed the other alpacas including this years Cria looking after him too, showing admirable amounts of love and support through his loss.
Despite the sad news, we would like to share how incredible Hercules has been and how he is growing to be an incredible Cria whom we adore. He has taken to bottle feeding extremely well and has multiple visitors everyday giving him food and fusses. He loves to have an ear rub and scratches on his chin seem to be his favourite comfort! He enjoys his time by himself but also enjoys spending time with his grandmother Jill, Spitfires' mother - Blue and has recently started playing around the field with Morgan - one of the cheekiest girls in the field. Although it is still early days and we are still keeping a close eye on him, it is so great to see the hero that Hercules has been and his overall progression growing up and getting stronger everyday.
